Design for the worst moment, not the demo.
Three working principles, each drawn from the case studies.
- 01
Start where the pain is already recorded
Call logs, desk queues and past documents tell me what is broken before I draw anything.
- 02
Design the unhappy path first
Errors, timeouts and failures get designed before visual polish, because that is where trust is won or lost.
- 03
Blank beats wrong
If the product doesn't know, it says so, and offers the next step.
- Framing
- I turn the brief into the real job. A kiosk brief became trust on a shared device; an AI brief became authorship.
- Evidence
- Observation before screens, then tests in the languages people actually use.
- Constraints
- Hardware, model latency and hospital systems are design material, not afterthoughts.
- Collaboration
- Numbered flows, bilingual prototypes and developer notes with every timing and rule, under one naming system for design, development and QA.
