Rakan Alkhattabi ยท User Experience Designer
I design for the moments people lean on.
The first step, the error, the decision and the handoff. Interfaces, behaviours, and the rules behind them.
Ten years designing and researching products in Toronto, London and Riyadh, across data platforms, retail software and hospital services.
One question runs through all of my work: did it cost someone less time, or more?

About
I began my career at the Toronto District School Board, coordinating programs for students and families. That work taught me to observe what people actually do before deciding what they need. A Master of Information in UX Design at the University of Toronto helped me turn that habit into a practice.
Since then, I have conducted usability testing on a data platform in London, carried out ethnographic interviews for the Michener Institute in Toronto, and redesigned the product and inventory tables merchants use every day at Rewaa in Riyadh.
Today, I set the direction for user experience across patient apps, staff tools, and corridor kiosks at KFSH&RC. I am also building the case for UX as a dedicated department.
Outside my day job, I run HAI Lab, where I share notes and experiments on how people and AI work together.

point of view
Design for the worst moment, not the demo.
Most products work when everything goes right. I spend my time on the walk-away, the blank section and the caregiver acting for someone else, because that is where people decide whether to trust a product.

Let's discuss the work.
I'm open to senior UX and design lead roles with teams who care about the details.
